As populations increase and industry multiplies, our planet is facing enormous challenges it has ever known. The devastating impact of climate and environmental change is wreaking havoc on natural habitats and global ecosystems, endangering both plant and animal life, and in turn, human life. Social and environmental justice is one of Newcastle University’s core values and this runs through the way that we operate as an institution. Research addressing these issues occurs throughout the university and our Centre for Climate and Environmental Resilience is a cross-university transdisciplinary Centre of Excellence. Our ecological research cuts across terrestrial and marine realms and we undertake research to provide evidence to inform policy in a range of areas. Our business school plays a leading role in promoting good practice in ethics, responsibility and sustainability in businesses. We are proud of our decade-long engagement with the Convention on Biological Diversity, producing research to inform reporting, negotiations at CoP15 and implementation of the Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework and we remain dedicated to building on this engagement.
